Niantic River Railroad Bridge.jpg

The replacement of the Niantic River Railroad Bridge has begun, and constuction barges and other equipment have been moved into close proximity to the channel.  Visibility may be reduced.  The location of the barge may impact the currents as mariners pass under the bridge.  To ensure safe navigation it is recommended that boaters:

Review and follow all Inland Rules of the Road , particularly the rules concerning narrow channels, conduct of vessels in meeting situations and responsibilities between vessels.

Monitor Channel 13 while transitting the area.  Use this channel to make a call out before you approach the bridge to determine if any other vessels are nearby and make passing arrangements with other vessels.

Proceed through the construction area at a safe speed and report any hazardous conditions to the U.S. Coast Guard on Channel 16

Also be advised it may take up to 30 minutes to procure an opening of the bridge.
